Week 4 - ROOTED

Sep 23, 2023

Forgiving others is hard work…but in my experience, the thing we battle most is accepting forgiveness for ourselves. If you wanna stay clean & sober, if you wanna live a life of purpose & meaning, you will have to be willing to forgive yourself. You will have to learn to love yourself—even all those past selves.

Sarah Hornbuckle, Associate Executive Director of the Hornbuckle Foundation, will join me as our Guest Storyteller. Sarah married an abusive alcoholic at the age of 24. A few years later she was carrying the shame of being a single mom, and the regret of: “I should have picked better.” She didn’t try cocaine until the age of 28. The next two years were spent in the slavery of addiction. Sarah got clean & sober in 2016…in recovery she experienced the healing of forgiveness: “Working through my shame and forgiving myself—there’s healing in that—I can love the older version of myself and that allows me to love others going through it.”
